“Through these ironic characters, I hope to connect with the audience, thus making them realize those weaknesses that were all accidentally buried underneath us.”

Fun and Bizarre
Hsinyi Liu, an artist living in New York, creates endearing and fun artworks with a taste of mischievous and evilness. Every sculptures of the little monsters are filled with modern casualness, without extra rendering and only created with a heart of a child. The dark solemn colors may reflect on her personal stories, but the colorful hues and the cute poses combined with the weird grins of the sculptures is what truly grabs people’s attention.

The Records from a Third Person View
By observing the Asian culture, there are various life experiences and romantic relationships found to be difficult to talk about due to the complex interpersonal relations and hardships that surrounds our everyday life. In Taiwan, there is a common saying: care about the others, especially the ones that are the closest to you. Living in an Asian society, one must learn to find a sense of emotional security from the others, in order to be supported and relied on. Yet people often forget the power of a sharp and twisted mind, which produces unseen stress that can cause deviation. Deviation plants the seed of isolation and exhaustion between relationships of humans.

The Restrictions of Romance
Love’s veins, Love’s restrictions
People take advantage of the responsibility, the guilt, and the dominance in ones’s relationship in order to make the submission obedient. There are numerous events in life that are unable to resist, or maybe it is the society’s values that had influenced us to do so, which makes these events less capable than desirable. When did people get used to being held captive in a cell of morals? Adaptation brings us to no escape, to come into being what is called “normal” or “tradition”. The image of these events reflects and affects on our body and soul and the force of changing is even stronger than gravity. Through these ironic characters, I hope to connect with the audience, thus making them realize those weaknesses that were all accidentally buried underneath us.
